January CamBelles Contest  Winner - Roger Vernon of Canmore, Alberta


Roger was the first to correctly guess that our lovely CamBelles were pictured in front of the Cascade Mountains in Banff, Alberta, Canada.  Luckily, the Cascade Mountains happen to be in Roger's backyard, so it was a relatively easy win for him!

Roger wins a Standard Wide Fiddlehead pattern valued at $338.00 US!   

The Cascade Mountains stretch from British Columbia through Washington, Oregon and into Northern California.  The Canadian portion of the Cascades are generally called the Cascade Mountains, while in Washington, they are referred to as the North Cascades.  Don't get too close to the high peaks - they are still active volcanoes, with Mt. Saint Helens erupting recently, in 1980.

November Winner - Paul Bonar

This was indeed a tough one, with very few hints to give it away.  Jennifer was pictured in front of a pier in Gloucester, MA and Paul was the first of three correct entries.  Some guesses included Saskatchewan, Alaska and even Shanghai - this tiny little pier was a stumper after all!   

The FrameAlign, valued at $338.00 US, is part of our professional CamAlign series, and features framing markers for SD through35mm - a necessity in the field today.  Many shooters are not aware what the intended final output of their projects will be therefore ensuring that the proper framing is referenced from viewfinder set up through post is absolutely critical.

July Winner - Joel Rydell

Natasha was shown in front of Pete's Gas Station museum (not Radiator Springs!) on Route 66 in Williams, Arizona.  This popular hotspot features old oil and gas station memorabilia -  one of the few nostalgic spots left on the original Route.    The FrontBox 12+4, valued at $425.00 US, is part of our professional FrontBox series, and features six DSC Primary vector colors, plus six useful colors placed between the primaries and four valuable skin tone patches.

May Winner - Wayne Upton

Wayne was first to guess that CamBelle Sonya was standing outside the famous Hoover Dam in Arizona.  Wayne wins the SW CamBelles chart she is holding, valued at $464.00 US! 

The Hoover Dam in Arizona was named after President Herbert Hoover, although he started construction on the dam when he was the Secretary of the State.  Elwood Mead oversaw the construction of the dam until it's completion in 1935, and was graciously awarded the lake behind it - subsequently called Lake Mead.  In 1985, the Hoover dam was recognized as a National Landmark. 

March Winner - Erik Gils

Erik Gils correctly guessed the location of our CamBelles Natasha - Humayun’s Tomb in New Delhi, India.  Erik wins the Senior Sized (24" x 14.7") FrameAlign Pattern Natasha was holding, valued at $363.00 US! We had many entrants, including one engineer from New Delhi, who guessed the Taj Mahal! 

Humayun’s Tomb is frequently confused with the popular landmark for it’s dazzling architecture, which was built using the same Mughal architecture.  Now Erik can accurately set up his viewfinder and screen markers with one of our newest designs - the FrameAlign!

January Winner - Bill Spencer

Bill Spencer of NorthStar Studios, Nashville , TN won our January CamBelles Contest.  Bill was the first to discover that our Cambelle was standing in front of the Smithsonian Building in Washington DC .
 
Bill has won a Junior Wide MultiBurst pattern to help him test lens and chip resolutions while he is on set at NorthStar.  Bill may have had one up on us - he used to work across from the Smithsonian, so perhaps that is why he was able to email us his answer so quickly!

Funded by the US Government, the Smithsonian is perhaps one of the worlds most advanced research and museum facilities.  Over 140 million items are stored within the Smithsonian through museums like the National History of African Art, the National Air and Space Museum and the National Museum of Natural History. The Smithsonian employs nearly 6300 workers, and is sectioned as a Trust by the act of Congress, making it sole property of the Federal Government.  It is worth a visit the next time you happen to be in Washington D.C.!

November Winner - Norman Koren

As a leader in our industry and the founder and President of Imatest, we trust that Norman will find Christina's Handy CamFocus pattern, with  spectrophotometrically neutral CamWhite on the rear, useful!
 

Norman was to first email that CamBelle Christina is standing in front of Mt. Saint-Michel  in Normandy, France.  Mont Saint-Michel is a small rocky tidal island in Normandy, roughly one kilometer from the north coast of France at the mouth of the Couesnon River near Avranches.

Mont Saint-Michel was used in the 6th and 7th centuries as an Armorican stronghold of Romano-Breton culture and power, until it was sacked by the Franks, thus ending the trans-channel culture that had stood since the departure of the Romans in AD 459.  Today Mont Saint-Michel is seen as a Gothic-style church.

July winner - Brian Perkinson

Brian is the RFTV Production Equipment Manager at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL.  It is no surprise that Brian guessed correctly as Northwestern University is next to Chicago!  Lovely Jennifer is holding a FrontBox Pro outside of the New Bears Stadium at Soldier Field.  Some interesting guesses included Montreal, Toronto, Frankfurt, Budapest and Paris... but Brian had the first correct answer and wins a FrontBox Pro HD chart.

A memorial to American soldiers who died in wars, Soldier Field was designed in 1919 and opened officially on October 9, 1924 as Municipal Grant Park Stadium; the name was changed to Soldier Field on November 11, 1925. The stadium is located on famous Lake Shore Drive in Chicago, seats 61,500 people and is currently home to the NFL's Chicago Bears.  It was previously the site of College All-Star Games and many Army-Navy games have also been played there over the years.  The stadium has hosted many sporting events and exhibitions, but it was not until September 1971 that the Chicago Bears made it their home.

René, was the first to answer that Christina is standing in front of the Windpalace in  Jaipur,  India - 

The top three of the five impressive storeys of the "Wind Palace" is a narrow one room facade.

The history of  Hawa Mahal, "The Palace of Winds" is a little vague, but it is generally believed that it was built so that the ladies of the royal household could sit comfortably in the cool, airy interior of Hawa Mahal, as they watched the royal parades and processions in the Johari Bazaar below.

The casino in Monte Carlo - Barcelona, Spain - Singapore - On a soundstage in Hollywood - Calcutta India -  Lower Harbour Street in Perran-ar-worthal, Cornwall -  She is in front of a green screen or something - Texas Station in Las Vegas, Nevada and Atlantic City.

December Winner - Dave Blackham

Dave is Operations Manager at Granada Television Bristol.  Not only was Dave the first to answer Edinburgh Castle, but he also added that CamBelle Jennifer is shown standing on Johnstone Terrace in Grassmarket, just below the Castle in Edinburgh, Scotland.

December's contest was either too easy, or DSC chart users are very well traveled.  We had hundreds of correct entries, albeit many of them misspelled Edinburgh!  Others named castles and old buildings from many parts of Europe, to Ireland, Scotland, even Loch Ness.  Yes, and many said that we used green or blue screens - well, who doesn't in this industry?

Now with users at all corners of the planet, it appears that we need to make the "Where in the World are the CamBelles" contest locations more difficult and remote.

November Winner - Jim Mann

Jim Mann was the first to identify the location as The City of Cork, Ireland.  Jim is a Senior Colorist at Synchro Film and Video, in Vienna, Austria.

The Church behind Natasha is Holy Trinity.

Holy Trinity Church was originally designed by George Richard Pain, on a site selected by Father Theobald Matthew for his Church.

The foundation was begun in Oct 1832 and consecrated while still only partially finished in Oct 1850.  To avoid confusion with Cork Trinity Presbyterian Church, Holy Trinity Catholic Church, is also known as Father Matthew Memorial Church.

In 1890, a competition was announced to complete the church, Dominic Coakley won the assignment and, with a somewhat less ambitious plan than G.R.Pain's original design, the facade and spire were added in 1891.

The River Lee runs through Cork, the third largest City in Ireland, after Dublin and Belfast.  Built in a marshy area, the town was originally called Corcaigh, which in the mother tongue means a marsh.

September Winner - Jack Chavez

Jack Chavez of Intel who was first with the correct answer that Christina and Sonja are pictured in Bogotá, Columbia

By now Jack should have received one of the "Limited Edition" chart-sets CamBelles Christina and Sonya are holding.

This was a tough one - Michael's clue about the pomegranates may have helped the few who guessed the correct answer.  There were many who named various towns in Spain also a number who suggested locations in the Caribbean and other countries in South America . . . 

Summer 05' Winner - John Westenberger
 

John Westenberger of Disneyland Broadcast Services - Anaheim, CA. who was the first to guess the location as inside "The Spruce Goose" Howard Hughes' famous flying boat - on display for many years at Long Beach CA. The Spruce Goose is now at the Evergreen Aviation Educational Centre and Museum at McMinnville, Oregon.

July '05 Winners - Pete Putman and Stephen Komori
 

Pete Putman of ROAM Consulting, Inc. in Doylestown, PA 18901 and Stephen Komori of Technical Services PBS Hawaii.  Their answers came in at within minutes of each other, so each received a Handy CamFocus chart.

The location was Kinkakuji (The Golden Temple Pavilion) formally known as the Rokuonji Temple in Kyoto, Japan.  Check back frequently, the next contest is starting soon and you could win valuable CamAlign and other DSC products that help make better images.

"Where in the World" CamBelles Contest
 

This was a tough one - Christina is in front of the "Swinging Bridge" in the Historic Village of Arroyo Grande, California.

It was originally constructed in 1875 by Newton Short, whose land was divided by the Arroyo Grande Creek. The bridge was given to the city in 1911. In January 1995, a tree fell on the bridge damaging it almost beyond repair. The famous bridge was repaired, however and re-opened to pedestrians in May 1995.

Some facts:
It is the only one of it's kind in California - Length, 171 feet - Height, 40 feet above the creek.
