Thanks to Jeff Cree for the following | | Here Jeff is using his HD ChromaDuMonde to run "green screen" tests on two new Sony cameras at Robert Rodriguez' Los Hooligans Studio. These cameras are an HDCF950, one of Sony's first 4:4:4 HD cameras, and an HDWF900. The HDWF900 camcorder has the same basic features as the HDW700A plus a 24psf mode and a number of other features. It's a 12 bit DSP camera, which gives it an edge in picture quality. | Checking alignment and matching cameras on the set can not only make better pictures, but also save money in post.
Aligning HDW-F900 camera using a DSC CamAlign FrontBox-Pro chart. The camera will be attached to the Deep Rover submersible on a Vince Pace and Jim Cameron project. | | | Vince Pace and the Sub crew installing the HDW-F900 housing on the Deep Rover This remarkable submersible weighs 3.6 tons (in air) is about 8x6 feet in size and can work at depths to 3000ft. (900m). Two 5" thick acrylic plastic hemispheres give great visibility and are joined using two aluminum rings. | Here Deep Rover dwarfs the Front box being used to set up colorimetry. We were very happy to receives Jeff's comments on the CamAlign in an e-mail. "The durability of the chart is unmatched. I just had to make some setup tables for underwater for the upcoming Star Wars project and a film called "Into the Blue". I took the front box chart to 130 feet in salt water and setup a camera matrix to bring back the colors to correct values. This was done for 20 to 30 foot ranges back to the surface. After I was done I dried off the chart and put back in the case, do that with a paper chart." | |
| | | | Moving from the Pacific to the Atlantic Scientists at the New England Aquarium (Boston) use CamAlign charts in their underwater research | | | | David and Sue dropped in recently on Jeff Herzog, conservationist and photographer, at NEAQ. Jeff had been using a Camette as his underwater test standard. It was showing signs of wear so we shipped him a FrontBox CamAlign to replace it. In this pix Jeff is showing us how a camera is loaded into its housing. |

One of the early ChromaDuMondes saw active service in Iraq withSean Fairburn. Sean had both CDM and a CamAlign FrontBox chart while shooting HD at the front. He says "the ChromaDuMonde is still fine, but its protective CamFolder got very dirty". When the budget is tight, consider the neat, economical CamAlign called Camette - Pocket and Handy.
